ELM RD. - The New Artisanal Home Fragrance Brand You're Going To Love (AD)

This post is in collaboration with ELM RD. All opinions, as always, are my own.

There's just something about home fragrance that feels so good. On the one hand, it's such a simple little luxury - treating yourself to a scented candle or room diffuser can be so easy and affordable to do. Yet it's also so much more than that. Scent has an incredible power to make us feel uplifted, chilled out or just plain indulged. It can remind us of our favourite people or special times in our lives, transport us to magical faraway places... a scented candle might be a small, attainable thing, but for those of us who love scent, its ability to work wonders on our feeling of wellbeing shouldn't be underestimated.

I am definitely one such person, and my home is never without scented candles or diffusers. Whether it's something fresh and floral in the hallway to welcome visitors, dreamy sandalwood in the lounge to evoke a feeling of relaxation or lavender by the bath to help me wind down before bed, I can't seem to get enough of home fragrance.

Vegan home fragrance brand

So, of course, I was beyond excited when I heard about ELM RD., a new home fragrance brand that launched late last year in the UK.

Born of a need to take time out from the daily grind and reconnect with nature and personal wellbeing, the memories and positive feelings evoked by scent are at the heart of the ELM RD. brand. Each product is handmade with love and care from 100% plant-based ingredients, meaning that they are all natural and vegan-friendly. Candles are made from a combination of rapeseed, soy wax and a blend of pure essential oils, with wooden wicks, to ensure a clean and long lasting burn. Diffuser oils are made from paraben-free botanical fragrances, a blend of essential oils and a vegan and eco-friendly diffuser base. Ingredients are cruelty free and sourced locally wherever possible, while the packaging is minimal and recyclable.

British home fragrance brand

Each range is based on a particular combination of scents, designed to stir memories or conjure up images of a specific time or place. From the delicate sounding Petals, inspired by the gardens of Versailles in the time of Marie Antoinette, to Chalet, a blend of atlas cedar, smokiness and spice reminiscent of an alpine retreat, it was almost impossible to choose a fragrance to try. They all sounded so wonderful! Each range offers two sizes of candle, a set of tea lights and a room diffuser, with the latter being the most expensive product at £38, which in my opinion is a good price for a high quality home fragrance product.

For those who really can't decide, ELM RD. even offers a bespoke service, where they will conjure up a selection of fragrances to capture the particular feelings the customer would love to have represented by scent. I can imagine how lovely that would be for a truly special occasion, like a wedding, for instance. In the end, I opted to try out a room diffuser in Amira and a scented candle in Secret.

Amira

Natural home fragrance brand

The Amira room diffuser is packaged in a sleek and minimal matte black bottle with black reeds, and looks very stylish on the mantelpiece in my living room. The fragrance is exotic and delicious with a hint of warmth - notes of mandarin mingling with frankincense, oud and geranium, inspired by palatial Middle Eastern architecture, desert landscapes and the Arabian Nights.

I have a large living room, yet this small bottle fills it with scent beautifully, without being in the least overpowering. When I head in there to relax in the evenings, it washes over me as soon as I open the door, improving my mood instantly. I'm absolutely loving it and will feel quite bereft when it's finished. Even my husband has noticed how nice the room smells!

Secret

Hand crafted home fragrances from ELM RD.

I went for a candle in the fragrance Secret because it's slightly different to the scents I usually go for. Containing tobacco, tonka and bergamot, it's designed to evoke the atmosphere of smoky Manhattan jazz clubs - a captivating mix of cocktails, leather seating and expensive cologne. It's a really addictive fragrance and a lovely choice for the cooler months as there is such a warmth and cosiness about it. I might not have gravitated towards this type of scent much in the past, but I have a feeling that's going to change now! Just like the Amira room diffuser, the candle is housed in sleek black packaging and has an impressive ability to fill the room with scent.

ELM RD. has seriously impressed me. There are a lot of home fragrance brands out there, but the quality of this one for the price is truly fantastic. The fragrances are sophisticated and utterly irresistible, while the all natural ingredients and commitment to sustainability will, I hope, encourage modern and environmentally aware shoppers to add this brand to their must try list. Any lover of home fragrance will not be disappointed! You can browse their collection here.

Do you have any scented candles or room diffusers in use right now? If so, I'd love to know what your favourite fragrance is.

The Pandora Garden Event And New Jewellery For Spring/Summer 2019

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to a lovely event in London - a spring celebration in honour of Pandora's new spring/summer jewellery collection. Held at the beautiful Bourne and Hollingsworth Buildings in Clerkenwell, the garden theme was in evidence as soon as I walked through the door, perfectly in keeping with the whimsical designs of the new jewellery pieces, all inspired by gardens.

The main event of the evening was a terrarium making workshop, which turned out to be pretty difficult, but a lot of fun. It was such a great idea too, as it meant that all of us bloggers immediately had something to bond over and talk about. I met some lovely girls, including Layla from Sprinkles of Style, whose blog I have followed for years now. It's so nice when you finally meet someone in person who has become so familiar online.

The Pandora Garden Event And New Jewellery For Spring/Summer 2019

We also enjoyed champagne and canapés, although you had to grab them quick as there was a lot of soil flying around!

Finally, terrariums complete, we were able to sit back, chat, and admire the jewellery. Floral designs are quite dominant in the collection, as are butterflies and four leaf clovers. I can definitely imagine layering the delicate pieces together to pair with pretty summer dresses and blouses. I was even given a ring to take home with me, which will make a beautiful addition to my jewellery collection and which I know I will wear often.

Spa Day And Come Shopping With Me In London

My sister treated me to a spa day at the Bvlgari Hotel in Knightsbridge, London, as a belated birthday treat. It was such a lovely day, so I thought I would share the experience with you in video form! I also did a little bit of shopping, so keep watching to find out what I bought!

You can watch the video on my YouTube channel or right here if you prefer, but you will find links to the clothing I tried on as well as to the spa we visited on YouTube. (Just to be totally transparent, the links to the clothing are affiliate links, but will not cost you any more should you choose to make a purchase through one. Buying And Decorating Our Christmas Tree

Happy Friday all! It's not long now until the big day, and Mike and I took a trip out this week to buy our Christmas tree from a nearby forest. It definitely got us in the festive spirit! Of course I took the opportunity to vlog the occasion - this is as close to vlogmas as I was ever going to get this year!

When it comes to decorating the tree, I've stuck to a colour theme for the past few years - mostly gold, silver and white, with a few touches of red here and there. I always really like how this combination turns out. If you want to see, you can watch the video on YouTube, or right here.

Is your tree up yet? And how have you decorated it?

Fill Your Home With Festive Fragrance: The Scented Candles I'm Loving (And Lusting After) This Christmas

I've been an advocate of scented candles and reed diffusers for years. Filling my home with scent is such an easy way to lift my mood, relax, or simply add a little touch of luxury to a room. I love keeping a reed diffuser in my entrance hall to welcome me home after a long day, or having candles to light in the living room to set the mood for cosy evenings in. Home fragrance is also a pretty affordable treat to self, and we all know I'm a big fan of those! Christmas, of course, is the perfect time to indulge, as festive fragrances and twinkling candlelight can add another dimension to the decorations and really help to get you in the Christmas spirit.

While I haven't got too far with my seasonal preparations yet, I've definitely been enjoying a couple of festive scents, thanks to these two beauties.

Fill Your Home With Festive Fragrance: The Scented Candles I'm Loving (And Lusting After) This Christmas

Beatitude Christmas Comfort Candle

I love the simple white and silver packaging of this Christmas Comfort Candle from Beatitude Products*. I've used their bath oils before (which are well worth checking out, by the way!) but this is my first candle from the award winning aromatherapy brand. All their products are 100% natural, free from parabens and not tested on animals, while the packaging is fully recyclable.

If you like a candle that really fills the room with scent, you will love this. Even before it is lit, you can smell it in the air. The fragrance is a beautiful mix of citrus and spice, one of my favourite combinations when it comes to Christmas scents.

Paddywax Deck The Halls Candle

I received this cute little silver jar candle at the Debenhams Christmas in July event - held on a scorching hot day in the middle of the summer heatwave! It's been sitting in a drawer since then,  waiting for the festive period to begin. Deck the Halls* is completely different from the Beatitude candle, but just as lovely in its own way. Featuring eucalyptus and balsam, it smells fresh, green and a lot like a Christmas tree - another favourite fragrance of mine.

I'm loving both these candles so much that, chances are, they might be long finished by Christmas Day, so I thought I would share with you a few others that I'm lusting after, as well as a few reed diffusers too.

What I Wore, Ate And Did In York

Well hello there! It's been a while, and things are looking a little bit different around here! As you'll probably know if you follow me on Instagram, I've had a couple of breaks away recently. One was to sunny Cyprus, the other to beautiful York. I vlogged the York trip, and shared it on my YouTube channel a couple of days ago. I've delayed posting it here until now, as I've been busy giving my blog a new look and template. I'm not quite finished playing around with it yet, but I'm loving the change so far, so I hope you like it too.

So what is this new look all about, I hear you ask. (Or maybe not, but I'm going to tell you anyway!)  Well, my trips away provided the perfect opportunity to sit back, reflect and take stock of the past year. As a result, I've found my mind jumping ahead to new year goals a little earlier than it usually would. When it comes to my blog and online presence, I've made some achievements I'm proud of in the last twelve months, but I really want to up my game in 2019. I won't go into too much detail now, partly because I haven't got it all figured out yet, and partly because I might do a proper blog post on it closer to the end of the year. But essentially, this explains both the new template and my absence for the past few weeks.

I'm still hoping to get some lovely new content up for you in December, but please do bear with me if consistency is sketchy for a little while longer. It has never been my strong point, so I hope it won't make too much difference if I take a little more time now to work on my goals, rather than jumping straight back in to the same old habits. After all, if I'm going to hit the ground running in 2019, then I'm going to need a solid plan, right?!

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy visiting York with me! Click here if you prefer to watch the vlog on YouTube, otherwise, here it is!

Until next time!

Mallorca Travel Vlog

If you aren't too fed up with all my Mallorca spam over on Instagram, you may be interested in seeing the vlog from my trip! We had a few days of bad weather while we were there, which to be honest probably made the vlog more interesting as we were forced to get out and about and explore. If we'd had wall to wall sunshine we might never have moved from the beach!

I've gone for a voiceover in this video, not just because I was attempting to emulate the style of what Anne did so beautifully here, but also because it seemed like the best way of making a vlog without feeling like I had to work at it too much. Talking to camera requires a certain amount of preparation and brain power for me, while simply filming what looks pretty is a lot easier! This was meant to be a complete break from work for Mike and myself, so I just filmed, and added in the words when I got home.

Surprisingly, some of the clothes I wore in the video are still available to buy, and some of them are heavily discounted too. If you like anything I'm wearing and have a holiday coming up to somewhere warm, it's worth checking out the description box on YouTube where I've put some links.

Hope you enjoy the video!

Date Night In Harrogate

A couple of weeks ago, my husband Mike and I treated ourselves to a night out in Harrogate, one of our favourite towns in North Yorkshire. It's only about an hour's drive from us, but we decided to stay overnight just to make it that little bit more special.

I've tried to capture a little bit of the town here, (some of it through our dirty car windscreen - apologies for that!) and it is well worth a visit if you ever find yourself in this part of the world. It has some lovely boutiques, art and antique shops as well as a great selection of the higher end high street stores, and loads of restaurants and cafes too. Betty's Tea Room is particularly famous, although we didn't eat there this time as we have been many times before. I also love looking at the townhouses here - they are beautiful.

Architecture and town amenities aside, this vlog also features food, (amazing pasta at Galo's Kitchen, totally recommend!) my outfits and a mini Get Ready With Me. You even get to see a tiny glimpse of Mike!

You can watch the video on my YouTube channel or right here. If you enjoy it, I would love it if you subscribed for more vlogs as well as fashion and beauty content.

Vlog 3 - Come To London With Me! Blogging Events, Burgers And Shopping In Zara

I had a couple of really fun days last week. Another invitation to a blogging event in London, which was the perfect excuse to go and stay with my sister. Even better, I got to bring her along to the event with me, and of course we found time for a spot of shopping too! I still have a lot to learn about vlogging, but I'm loving doing it, so I hope you'll enjoy this little glimpse into my adventures!

Scent By Mail - The Subscription Box Service For Home Fragrance Lovers

Despite being a beauty lover, I've never been tempted to subscribe to a beauty box. I've always felt that they can be a bit hit and miss in terms of what's included, and the thought of ending up with a lot of sample sized products I'm not really bothered about, for the privilege of paying a monthly fee, just isn't something that's ever appealed to me. These days, though, the subscription box market has expanded to different areas, and lately, I've found one that I really like. It's called Scent By Mail, and if you're as obsessed with scented candles and home fragrance as I am, chances are you will like it too.

Scent By Mail - The Subscription Box Service For Home Fragrance Lovers

Scent By Mail - The Subscription Box Service For Home Fragrance Lovers

Scent By Mail has been recently established by a lady called Lauren who has spent many years working in the home fragrance market and has a huge passion for filling her own home with scent. Working with 40 of the world's top brands, Scent By Mail aims to select a variety of seasonal fragrances each month, including scented candles, reed diffusers, scented sachets and more. They also offer a variety of options when it comes to buying from them. You can choose from 3, 5 or 7 piece boxes, on a rolling monthly subscription or a 3, 6 or 12 month plan. You can also buy one off boxes, or you can choose any of the above as a gift for someone else. I was sent the 5 piece Scent Enthusiast box*, which  arrived looking beautiful, and smelling even better. So what was inside?

Yankee Candle Small Jar A Calm & Quiet Place

Yankee Candle A Calm & Quiet Place

I'm a huge Yankee Candle fan, so I was thrilled to find one in the box, especially as it was a scent I hadn't tried before. A Calm & Quiet Place is new for 2018 and contains jasmine, patchouli and warm amber musk. All of these are favourites of mine, so it's no surprise that I've found a new candle obsession with this. I rarely burn candles in my home office while I'm working, but I've been doing that with this one and I'm loving it.

Lily-Flame Blush Scented Candle Tin

Lily-Flame Blush Scented Candle Tin - The First Kiss Of The Night!

Lily-Flame Blush Scented Candle Tin - The First Kiss Of The Night!

This is so pretty to look at, and there is something really addictive about the heady, sweet scent of it. It actually reminds me of a perfume I used to wear years ago, although I can't exactly remember what that perfume was, if that makes any sense! This is a brand I have heard of but never got around to trying, and I think that's one of the nice things about a subscription box like this, as you get that opportunity to become more familiar with different brands as opposed to just sticking with what's tried and tested.

Shearer Candle Amber Noir Tin Candle

Shearer Candle Amber Noir Tin Candle

Speaking of becoming familiar with different brands, this is one that was completely unknown to me, so it was interesting to find it in the box. It's absolutely gorgeous - a beautiful combination of tuberose, violets and amber which really fills the room with scent. Apparently, this is one of Shearer's bestselling fragrances and it's not hard to see why.

Yankee Candle Wax Melt Sun-Drenched Apricot Rose

Yankee Candle Wax Melt Sun-Drenched Apricot Rose

This requires a set up with a dish for the wax melt and a tea light underneath to melt it. I don't have one of these, so haven't tried this out yet, although it smells beautiful through the packaging!

Bridgewater Candle Company Sweet Grace Scented Sachet

Bridgewater Candle Company Sweet Grace Scented Sachet

The final item in the box is something a little bit different - a scented sachet which you can slip into your wardrobe, linen cupboard, underwear drawer or anywhere you like. A delicious combination of patchouli, sparkling tea and fruity notes, it's another addictive fragrance and I'll definitely be keeping this on a shelf in my wardrobe to make my clothes smell incredible!

Although monthly subscription boxes have never really been my thing, I've absolutely loved this one and I'd definitely consider getting another, either as a treat to myself every now and then or as a gift for a friend. Prices start at £13.50, while the 5 piece box like mine costs £20 per month plus £2.95 for postage and packaging.

Do you receive any subscription boxes? What are your thoughts on a home fragrance version?

New Year, New Me, With A Little Help From TK Maxx - 1

A lot of people aren't too fond of January, and I can understand why. All the festive sparkle of Christmas is over, yet we still have to deal with the long, cold dreary days and even longer dark, dreary nights. But I must confess, I kind of like this time of year. It's a time for new beginnings, for looking back at the achievements of the past twelve months and setting goals for the twelve to come. And I'm pretty much addicted to setting goals! I get a real buzz from that "New Year, New Me" feeling, and this year is definitely no exception - especially as I've had a little help from TK Maxx.

For me, the New Year is all about re-evaluating where I'm headed with my blog, and having started my YouTube channel at the end of 2017, I could not be feeling more motivated. I really want to grow on both platforms this year, and that means buckling down, getting focused, and creating as much inspiring and exciting content as I possibly can. With that in mind, I popped into my local TK Maxx the other day and picked up one or two little treats that should help to make my work space a much more appealing place to be. After all, a beautiful, well-organised desk is bound to foster more productivity than a messy one, no?!

New Year, New Me, With A Little Help From TK Maxx - 2

I have an obsession with notebooks, and get through them at the speed of light. Whether I'm making lists, planning blog posts or working out my strategy for world domination, my favourite tools for the task are always a cute notebook and pen. I managed to pick up a gorgeous notebook*, complete with inspiring quote on the front cover, for just £4.99, which is a fabulous price - you'd be looking at three times that in a fancy stationery shop - as well as a pack of super pretty gold pens* for £7.99.

New Year, New Me, With A Little Help From TK Maxx - 3

This pack of desk essentials* really caught my eye. Containing a couple of smaller notebooks - you can never have too many! - plus some pretty stickers to brighten up their pages, handy little clips and more, it's packed full of useful bits and pieces and was a real bargain at £6.99. Likewise, this desk tidy* (£4.99) is sure to come in handy to keep my desk free from clutter and is really decorative too.

New Year, New Me, With A Little Help From TK Maxx - 4

New Year, New Me, With A Little Help From TK Maxx - 5

The finishing touches were a couple of scented candles* to help create an inviting atmosphere to work in, and a faux succulent planter* to make my desk look pretty. I opted for a pink grapefruit scented candle to help me feel energised, as well as a lilac and wild jasmine one, which I chose because I love floral fragrances. They set me back a very reasonable £6.99 and £7.99 respectively, while the faux succulents were £6.99.

In total, I spent just under £50, and think I did very well for the money! I was spoilt for choice too, and if you fancy picking up some similar items, I'm sure you'll find something you like if you have a browse at TK Maxx's stationery, candles and faux flowers.

New Year, New Me, With A Little Help From TK Maxx - 6

New Year, New Me, With A Little Help From TK Maxx - 7

Of course, not everyone's New Year goals are the same, but no matter what direction yours take, I'm still willing to bet that TK Maxx will have something you need to help them along. Lots of people love to set fitness related goals, and if that's you, you'll find a huge range of active wear to choose from. If you've decided that 2018 is the year you get into meditation and mindfulness, you'll find yoga mats, adult colouring books and of course scented candles. And if you just fancy pepping up your wardrobe, makeup drawer or living room... well, I don't think you need me to tell you that TK Maxx has a vast array of fashion, beauty and homeware, now do you?

When January comes around, a lot of us are still feeling the pinch a little after all the Christmas spending, and the fact that TK Maxx offer great quality and big brand products at up to 60% off the RRP is another great reason to shop there. There's also no need to rush to catch the end of the January sales, as they simply don't do them. Instead, they offer amazing prices all year round - in store and online.

Have you set any goals for the New Year?

Get Summer Ready With Alchemy Super Blends Natural Supplements

How often have you seen #eatclean beneath one of my Instagram posts? That's right, never. As much as I like healthy food (I enjoy my avocado on toast as much as the next blogger), I'm definitely no super clean eating, dairy free, sugar free, gluten free vegan goddess. I like my red meat too much. And, for that matter, a nice, crusty white baguette. And chocolate. And the occasional glass of wine. And chocolate.

It's probably also worth noting that I have a naturally skinny body type, and it's hard to feel motivated to cut a lot of things out of your diet when you know you'll end up looking like a walking skeleton as a result.

Get Summer Ready With Alchemy Super Blends Natural Supplements

That said, I'm always careful to keep things as healthy as realistically possible, and when it comes to adding the stuff that's good for me, I'm a lot more likely to make the effort. Particularly - and I'm not sure if I should admit this - when that good stuff is likely to improve my looks as well as my health. Yep, I'm vain and shallow, what can I say?!

When I heard about Beauty Elixir*, a supplement powder created by Alchemy Super Blends, it sounded right up my street. I don't usually take supplements, except for multivitamins occasionally if I've been feeling a bit run down, but the nice thing about this one is that it's completely organic and made from superfoods. There is nothing more annoying than taking something that is supposed to be good for you and wondering if some of the ingredients are actually bad for you! With Alchemy Super Blends, you are literally getting powdered berries and plants, and nothing else. The Beauty Elixir contains baobab, acai, goji berries, camu camu, pea protein and wheatgrass - in other words, the perfect cocktail of anti-oxidants, Vitamins C and E, beta carotene and iron to promote collagen production, protect skin and encourage healthy hair and nail growth. The Alchemy team was also kind enough to send me sample packs of their other Elixirs - Morning*, Sport* and Energy* - which all contain slightly different blends.

Another thing I really appreciated was the little cards included in the package which offered suggestions of recipes to add the powders to. I've had the morning shot a few times, and while I can't say it's the most delicious thing I've ever tasted, it's certainly drinkable, and it's great to know I'm giving my body a nice dose of goodness to start the day on! The Alchemy website is also a good source of other healthy recipes for smoothies, juices, porridge, energy balls etc, all of which enable you to integrate the powders into your daily diet.

The Alchemy Super Blends Elixirs are a great way to supplement your diet in a natural way and I will definitely be using the Beauty one to make sure I'm looking my best this summer! Have you tried any natural supplements?
