The Great Foundation Challenge #3 - Vichy Dermablend

Hi guys! Sorry I haven't been around much lately. It's the usual story - work and life getting in the way, etc etc. Still, I have managed to find some time and so I am back with another foundation challenge post. It's ages since I did one of these. If you remember, I embarked on a quest some time ago to find myself a good drugstore dupe for my favourite foundation, Estee Lauder Double Wear. So far I've tried L'Oreal Infallible, which I hated, and Revlon ColorStay, which I remain seriously impressed by and now wear on a regular basis. You can read the post on the L'Oreal base here and the Revlon one here. Today, I shall be talking about the latest edition to my steadily growing collection - Vichy Dermablend.

Vichy Dermablend Foundation

I've been keen to try this foundation for a while as I've heard a lot of good things about it. Vichy market it as a "camouflage foundation" and claim that it will cover all manner of flaws from an uneven complexion and dark circles to vitiligo and acne. My skin isn't terrible, but it isn't amazing either and one of the most important qualities I look for when choosing a base is high coverage. This one certainly sounded like it would fit the bill! It's also hypoallergenic, free from parabens and non-comedogenic - which basically means it won't irritate your skin or clog your pores. All this and SPF 35! Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, read on and find out!

Vichy Dermablend Camouflage Foundation

First off, let's talk packaging. It's not exactly stunning, is it? Not that this is ever something that would deter me from purchasing a product I know is good or have been recommended. It would just be nice if it was a bit prettier. That's all I'm saying.

Secondly, it's only available in five shades. To quote the girls from Made in Chelsea, that's not ideal. I went for the second palest shade (25), which isn't a fantastic match on me but is just about OK. It is definitely a better match than the above picture would suggest. For some reason the lighting is turning my hand into a red dragon's claw. Still, it gives you a good idea of the thickness of the product. Here it is on my face.

Vichy Dermablend Camouflage Foundation

I cannot fault the coverage of this foundation. It gives you flawless skin and it lasts all day. For me, these are the two things I want most of all from a base so for that reason, I do like Vichy Dermablend. However, limited colour range and uninspiring packaging aside, there is one major downside of this product - it just doesn't seem to set. Like, ever. Do not wrap your arms around your husband/boyfriend and bury your face in his chest while wearing Vichy Dermablend. The romantic moment will come to an abrupt end when he sees the mess it makes of his t-shirt. I have learnt this to my cost! Not only this, but it feels tacky on your skin the whole time you are wearing it, which isn't very comfortable.

So mixed feelings on this one! Has anyone else tried it? What did you think? What are your favourite drugstore foundations?

  1. The fact that the foundation doesn't set and feels tacky is such a dealbreaker! I've never tried this foundation before but I had high hopes for it. I'll probably be spending my pennies on something else then ... Love your pictures! ;)

    1. Thank you Alice! I completely agree - I won't be repurchasing it for this very reason. Such a shame as in theory it should be a really great product! x

  2. I haven't tried this and as lovely as it looks I'm not liking the sound of it coming off that easy - have you tried the L'Oreal true match foundation?
There's SO many shades available and it does make skin look great all day - could be a try! You should also check out the Clarins True Radiance foundation - that's gorgeous and my all time favourite! :)

    1. I haven't tried True Match though so many people recommend it! I guess I'm a little put off as I didn't get along with the other L'Oreal foundation I tried. Maybe one day I'll give it a go. I hear good things about Clarins bases too! x

  3. Sounds like it's not a good summer foundation! We hate foundations that feel heavy and tacky on the skin. We think there are some amazing foundations in the drugstore. Our favourite is the Rimmel Wake Me Up. It gives a natural and dewy finish, and is very lightweight

    1. Ah it's Winter for me I'm afraid! But yes the tacky feeling is a big drawback. A lot of people have mentioned Rimmel Wake Me Up to me. I haven't tried it, although I have to say I didn't like the concealer. Maybe the foundation is different, so perhaps I should give it a try! x

  4. The coverage looks great, it is a pity about it not setting though.

  6. I've heard so much about this recently so it was great to read your views! I'm really pale so not sure what the lightest shade would be like seeing as there are only 5. Your 'red dragon claw' comment made me chuckle - I've definitely be having the same problem haha!

    1. Yes 5 is quite limited isn't it? And I have no idea what was going on with the light - must be the time of year! x

  7. I've heard really good things about the coverage of this, but it's a shame about it not setting. For full coverage, I tend to rely on Estee Lauder Double Wear - and it doesn't budge once it's set!

  8. I've seen excellent reviews for this. Its seems too good to be true to have a product that offers such excellent coverage yet not clog pores. I'm waiting on my current foundation to run out then I'll be buying this one xx

  11. I have read about this foundation but I stayed away from it because I love my sheer coverage. The product transfer is definitely a no-no too. Btw, please post more pictures of yourself, you look fabulous!

  12. If it feels gross on my face I hate it, or if it is really oily. My skin doesn't really react to that well!
    Great review! :)

  13. It sounds like a really good foundation apart from the colour range - and knowing my luck with foundation shades, none of them would suit my skin!

  15. I actually quite like L'Oreal Infallible, and Revlon Colour Stay. I had high hopes for this until you said it doesn't set, how annoying! I gym in my lunch breaks so need a foundation that won't slide off. Oh well!

  17. I have read a lot of reviews about this foundation and love the sound of it - especially the coverage. The ad with the guy with tattoos was amazing - one I will never forget! However, having read that it never sets has really put me off now! What a pity as this has the potential to be great! :) x
