Barry M Gelly Nail Effects in Blackberry

I hope you guys don't mind another nail polish post so soon after the last one, but if I'm honest they are one of the quickest posts for me to do when I'm run off my feet with other things, which seems to be ALL the time at the moment!

Also, this is a new purchase, and I couldn't wait to try it out!

I bought Barry M Gelly Nail Effects in Blackberry at the same time as the matte nail paint in Crush, which I blogged about here. In case you remember how undecided I was about the matte polish, I can tell you that it grew on me in a big way. Whether or not I would buy more matte finishes I'm not sure, but the colour of that one is really beautiful, and once I got used to it, I really enjoyed wearing it. I also found it lasted quite a while before chipping, too.

But anyway, back to Blackberry. I love Barry M's Gelly Hi-Shine range, so I knew I was going to like the finish of this. However, the colour was a bit of a gamble. (Sometimes in life, we all have to push ourselves out of our comfort zones. Others go bungee jumping; I buy shades of nail polish that I'm not sure will suit me.) I've tried all manner of blue polishes in the past - pastel blues, sky blues, glittery blues - and they never seem to work on me. However, I've never tried a navy or darker shade of blue before, and Blackberry looked so pretty that I just had to give it a go.

Now I'm not the best at painting my nails, even when I have plenty of time, which was not the case yesterday. So please excuse the (very) messy edges. If anyone has any good tips for achieving a neat manicure then please let me know! But, my own lack of skill aside, I have to say that I really love this colour. I think it's quite a sophisticated way to do blue nails. I'm wearing a base coat but no top coat. I don't think you need one with the Gelly finishes, as they're so shiny. Compared to others I've tried from this range, application is lovely and smooth. I'm wearing two coats in these pictures.

Blue Nail Polish

I think I'm developing a bit of an addiction to Barry M polishes. Their colour range is amazing and they're so affordable too. My sister picked up one of the silk finish shades when I bought this one, and it looks beautiful, so I shall have to try one of those next!

What do you think of this shade? Are you a fan of blue nails?

  4. I'm actually loving this shade - it looks gorgeous on you!!

As for keeping things neat…I wasn't great either but it just takes time and patience which you said you don't have haha! I normally start with one brush stroke in the middle and then on either side……normally it helps but it might just be me! :)

Also, have you tried applying vaseline round the edges? This will help colour come off easily when washing you hands so that could be something too?

Anyway this is a gorgeous colour….so beautiful that I'm tempted to buy it! :/

    1. Thanks for the tips Layla! I have very wide nail beds which I think doesn't help. (Excuses excuses!) I have never tried the Vaseline thing, so I will give this a go! The colour is lovely isn't it? x
